When your AC quits on you in July or your furnace stops working during an ice storm, you need help fast. We’ve been fixing heating and cooling problems for Greensboro families since 2008, and we’ve seen it all – from simple filter issues to air conditioning and heating systems that need complete replacements.
Last summer, the whole Friendly Avenue area lost cooling when temps hit 98 degrees. Our phones didn’t stop ringing for three days straight. What we learned from that heatwave still helps us serve Greensboro better today. We know which systems hold up best in our humid summers and which furnaces work best when winter hits the Triad. When you need help, call the independent HVAC contractor you can trust – Fire and Ice!

Joseph is a very honest person with very affordable prices. I am so grateful that he answered my call at midnight and helped us fix our A/C problem; with the intense September heat, it is unbearable to try to sleep in 87-degree temperatures here in Greensboro. God bless you, Joseph , I recommend you 100%.Posted on Google![]()

On Saturday, July 4, we returned home from watching fireworks to find that our air conditioner had stopped working. After doing some research and watching several instructional videos, my husband replaced the run capacitor on Sunday. The system worked perfectly on Sunday and Monday, so we thought the issue had been resolved. However, when we both arrived home from work on Tuesday, July 7, we walked into what felt like an oven. Although the thermostat was set to 72°F, it was reading 87°F inside the house. The outdoor unit appeared to be running properly, but the system was not cooling the home. I immediately began calling HVAC companies throughout the area. This was before most businesses had even closed for the day, and I understood that same-day service would likely only be available for emergencies. With four children in the home, including one with asthma, this was absolutely an emergency for our family. I even offered to pay any emergency service fees, but every company I contacted either had no availability or told me it would be several days—some not until the weekend—before a technician could come out. It was incredibly discouraging. I continued searching online and came across Fire & Ice. The very first review I read mentioned that a real person answered the phone immediately (not an automated system) and that a technician arrived within an hour. Although I was skeptical after the responses I'd already received, I decided to call. From the moment Joe answered the phone, the experience was exceptional. He was friendly, professional, and took the time to gather all of the necessary information. To my surprise, a technician arrived at our home in approximately 35 minutes. Joe immediately began diagnosing the problem and thoroughly explained every step of the process. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient with my countless questions, and genuinely took the time to ensure we understood exactly what was happening. Before performing any repairs, he provided a detailed estimate and explained the recommended work. If he discovered an additional issue during the repair, he stopped, explained the situation, discussed the associated cost, and waited for our approval before proceeding. We never felt pressured or surprised by unexpected charges. Our air conditioning was fully repaired in approximately two hours, and the quality of service exceeded every expectation we had. Outstanding customer service has become increasingly difficult to find, but Fire & Ice reminded us exactly what it should look like. Their professionalism, honesty, transparency, prompt response, and quality workmanship earned our trust from the very first visit. We cannot recommend Fire & Ice highly enough and will absolutely be using them for all of our future HVAC needs. While we're grateful our air conditioner is working again, we certainly hope we won't need their services again anytime soon! Thank you, Joe, and the entire Fire & Ice team, for turning a stressful situation into such a positive experience.Posted on Google![]()

In the midst of the intense heat and holiday weekend, our AC unit started leaking and needed to be shut off. We called Fire and Ice like we always do for our home, and they were out to the house within hours. They not only identified and isolated the issue, but also fixed it in the same visit. They were so professional, fairly priced, and supportive in our time of need! Prompt response, prompt repair, and great customer service from beginning to end.Posted on Google![]()

Fire and ice were incredibly responsive as a company, for my non-urgent issue. They were able to schedule me next day. Joseph came out to the house + collected all relevant information about the specifics of our systems, we walked through the problems we've been having here with fresh air intake. After doing a thorough investigation of the AC systems, Joseph gave us four options at various price points and explain the pros and cons very clearly. We will definitely be doing business with this company going forward for all the AC needs.Posted on Google![]()

Joe was very diligent in doing our furnace tuneup and when he found a problem, he worked tirelessly to solve it. He also diagnosed a problem with our fireplace gas logs and came up with a solution . We would highly recommend Joe with Fire and Ice for anyone needing HVAC service.
Most people don’t think about their heating and air until something goes wrong. Then they find themselves sweating in their living room or shivering under blankets wondering what happened. That’s when they start looking for a local HVAC contractor to help. These are common reasons things break down:
Nothing’s worse than waking up to a cold house. Your breath is visible and you’re piling on sweaters trying to stay warm. We’ve helped thousands of Greensboro homeowners through furnace emergencies.
Common furnace issues our HVAC contractors regularly fix:
Emergency heating repair is available 24/7. We don’t charge extra for nights or weekends when it’s a true emergency. If your heat is completely out and it’s below 40 degrees, that’s an emergency in our book.
Summer heat in Greensboro is no joke. When humidity makes it feel like 105 outside, you need AC that works right. We install, repair, and maintain all types of cooling systems.
AC installation starts with a comprehensive HVAC assessment. We calculate cooling loads based on your home’s size, which direction it faces, how much insulation you have, and more. This ensures you get a system that cools efficiently without running constantly.
HVAC system installation for new construction or whole-home replacements takes 1-3 days depending on the job. We pull permits, inspect ductwork, install new equipment, and test everything before we’re done. You’ll get a warranty on parts and labor so you’re protected.
Central air conditioning repair is our most common service call in summer. Signs your AC needs repair include:
We stock common parts on our trucks so most repairs get done same-day without waiting for parts to ship.
Air conditioning maintenance keeps small problems from becoming expensive repairs. We offer maintenance plans that include two visits per year – one before cooling season and one before heating
season.
During air conditioning maintenance, we:
Regular maintenance can extend your system’s life by 5-10 years. It also keeps your system running efficiently, which lowers your electric bills. Most people save enough on energy costs to pay for the maintenance plan.
Compressor replacement is one of the most expensive AC repairs. The compressor is like the heart of your cooling system. When it fails, you’re looking at $1,500-$2,500 for the repair. Sometimes it makes more sense to replace the whole system if it’s already 12-15 years old.

Your ductwork is like the lungs of your house. When ducts get dirty, you’re breathing in dust, pollen, pet dander, and who knows what else every time the system runs.
We recommend duct cleaning every 3-5 years, or sooner if you got pets, allergies, or recently finished construction work. Here in Greensboro with all our pine trees and spring pollen, air ducts get dirty faster than in other places.
Duct cleaning involves more than just vacuuming. We use specialized equipment to clean every inch of your ductwork. We also inspect for mold, pest problems, and disconnected ducts that waste energy. After cleaning, we can seal ducts to make your system more efficient.
Indoor air purification works alongside clean ducts. We install UV lights and air purifiers that kill bacteria, viruses, and mold spores before they circulate through your home. This makes a big difference for families with asthma or allergies.

Gas line installation is a job for licensed professionals only. There is absolutely no room for mistakes when working with highly combustible natural gas or propane, as errors can lead to dangerous leaks or explosions.
We provide expert installation for all major residential and commercial appliances, including furnaces, water heaters, kitchen stoves, laundry dryers, and outdoor features like fire pits and grills.
Safety and compliance are our top priorities. Before starting any work, we meticulously check all local codes and pull the proper permits. In places like Greensboro, a permit is always required for new gas line runs, and we handle all the necessary paperwork for you.
Crucially, after every installation, we perform a mandatory pressure test on the line. This ensures there are zero leaks before the gas is turned on, guaranteeing a safe, reliable, and code-compliant system.
When temps drop below freezing around here, you find out real quick if your heating system works or not. We handle everything from small fixes to brand new system installs.
Furnace problems usually show up right before you really need heat. Maybe you smell gas, hear weird noises, or the pilot light keeps going out. These are safety issues and we treat them that way. Our emergency heating repair service gets someone to your house fast – usually within a couple hours even on nights and weekends.
Gas furnace installation takes careful planning. We size the system based on your home’s square footage, insulation, and how many windows you got. Installing a furnace that’s too big wastes money. Too small and you’ll never stay warm. We’ve installed hundreds of furnaces in Greensboro and know exactly what works for homes in neighborhoods like Starmount, Irving Park, and College Hill.
Heat pump installation gives you both heating and cooling in one system. These work great in North Carolina because our winters aren’t super harsh. When it gets below 30 degrees, a heat pump needs backup heat, but most days it runs efficiently and keeps your bills lower than traditional systems.
Boiler repair takes special knowledge. Not many HVAC companies in Greensboro work on boilers anymore, but we do. If you got radiators or baseboard heating, we can fix leaks, replace pumps, and handle all the maintenance your system needs.
True emergencies don’t wait for business hours. When your heat goes out at 2am in January or your AC dies during a July heatwave, you need help now. We answer the phone 24/7 and dispatch technicians for real emergencies.
What counts as an emergency? If your home is getting dangerously hot or cold, that’s an emergency. If you smell gas, that’s an emergency. If water is leaking from your HVAC equipment and causing damage, that’s an emergency. For everything else, we can usually schedule you within 24 hours.
Our emergency HVAC service covers all of Greensboro including:
We keep trucks stocked with common parts so we can fix most problems on the first visit. Nobody wants a technician to show up, diagnose the problem, and then say they need to order parts. We do everything possible to get your system running the same day you call.
We’ve built our HVAC Contractor reputation by showing up on time, fixing problems right the first time, and charging fair prices. No surprise fees, no high-pressure sales tactics. Just honest work from technicians who actually care about keeping your family comfortable.
Every technician on our team is licensed, background-checked, and trained on the latest equipment. We invest in ongoing education because HVAC technology changes fast. What we learned 10 years ago doesn’t apply to today’s high-efficiency systems.
We also believe in giving back to Greensboro. We sponsor youth sports teams, support local schools, and help out when neighbors need it. This community has been good to us and we want to return the favor.
Ready to schedule service or get a quote on new equipment? Give us a call or fill out the form on our website. We’ll get back to you fast and schedule a time that works for your schedule. No obligation, no pressure – just straight talk about what your HVAC system needs.
Smart thermostats can cut your energy bills by 10-20%. They learn your schedule and adjust temps automatically. We install Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell, and other brands.
Proper ventilation removes stale air and brings fresh air in. This helps with odors, moisture, and air quality. We install ERVs and HRVs that work with your HVAC system.
We test for carbon monoxide, humidity levels, and particulates. If your home has air quality issues, we can recommend solutions like dehumidifiers, humidifier installation, or better filtration.
Like a checkup at the doctor, a tune-up catches problems before they become emergencies. We adjust parts, clean components, and make sure everything runs smoothly.
Before buying a house? Get the HVAC inspected. We'll tell you the age of the equipment, expected remaining lifespan, and any repairs needed. This helps you negotiate with sellers.
New additions or finished basements need ductwork. We design and install duct systems that balance airflow and maintain even temperatures throughout your home.
When the drain clogs, water backs up and can damage your home. We clean drains and install drain pans with overflow protection for added safety.
Winter air in Greensboro gets dry. A whole home humidifier adds moisture to keep your skin from drying out and helps you feel warmer at lower temps.

We install and service all major HVAC brands, but we partner with manufacturers that offer the best warranties and reliability. Our customers in Greensboro trust us to recommend systems that will last.
When choosing a new heating system, we help you compare options. Some people want the cheapest upfront cost. Others want maximum efficiency to save money over time. We explain the pros and cons of each option without pushing you toward the most expensive choice.
Heating system installation includes:
